On 29 August 2023, H.E. Dr Désiré Boniface SOMÉ presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to the President of the Republic of India, H.E. Mrs Droupadi MURMU.
On this occasion, the new Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the welcome he received in New Delhi and conveyed to the President of India the warm greetings of his Burkinabè counterpart, H.E. Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ.
Ambassador SOMÉ congratulated India on its achievements in space, in particular the success of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission on 23 August 2023, which places the country in the very exclusive club of nations capable of a controlled Moon landing.
Turning to bilateral matters, he reviewed the state of cooperation and pledged to work towards its effective implementation, particularly in security, humanitarian affairs, scientific research and university training.
The President of India praised the quality of relations with Burkina Faso, as shown, in her words, by the opening of the Embassy of India in Burkina Faso in 2019 and the effective implementation of entry visa issuance for India. She expressed her own and her government's readiness to further strengthen the ties between the two peoples, and invited Burkina Faso to send a delegation to New Delhi to hold a joint cooperation commission, essential to consolidating the warm relations between the two countries.
